About the Boss and Our Equipment

Since 1982 when I purchased my first home I have been involved in the building industry. From refurbishing houses I have owned to the design and construction management of new homes. Since 1994 I have been full time in the building industry, the first three years managing new building projects. In 1997 I expanded into the Waterproofing industry as well; the company grew quickly and had up to seven staff. I did everything from quoting from plans, costing, budgeting, advising Architects and Builders with design and building issues to inspecting and supervising the preparation of roofs, decks, bathrooms and foundations prior to and including the application of waterproofing membranes. Over the years I have given advice and successfully canvassed for changes with various councils, making suggestions for improvements to reduce leaky building related problems. For a number of years now I have been regularly called upon to analyse the cause of and solve leaky building problems. I have completed and passed the FLIR certified thermography training course which is an ISO 9001 certified course and have had one on one training by a level two thermographer.

I have always had a keen interest in energy efficiency; I own and use energy efficient products in my own home. Recently I have completed and passed the ABSA Assessor training course. The course was designed to develop the skills and knowledge that enable development of practical, cost-effective building and design solutions that cost less to run and minimise impact on our environment. We then apply sophisticated analysis of residential building thermal performance using AccuRate assessment software. This enables the delivery of professional assessment services that provide valuable, specialist advice and certification of regulatory compliance. This qualification is a pre-requisite requirement to be able to be Accredited with ABSA as a HERS Accredited Assessor. At the time of writing, have not yet completed the final separate (HERS) Accreditation exam which will enable me to issue the official certificates.

If you want someone who's been hands on and knows what to look for, who now also has the advantages that Thermography offers give John a call on 0800 338 328.

Trotec T650
Professional Scanning System Dielectric scanning mode The T650 is a professional hand-held instrument for fast, non-destructive determination of moisture content in areas at a depth of up to 40mm from the surface. Damp and dry wall and floor areas can be detected by permanent real time display of the measured values.

For an immediate evaluation of the measured data, minimum, maximum and average functions are available. In addition the current measured value can be retained by means of the hold function. Since the instrument's screen can display two values, for purposes of results evaluation a function value can be displayed at the same time as the current measured value if required.

The T650 has an alarm function. An individual limit value is entered into the unit before any measurements are taken. In this way large wall or floor areas can be measured quickly and effectively. As soon as the pre-defined alarm limit value is exceeded, the alarm sounds.

Features

Material moisture measurement: up to 40mm
Measurement principle: Dielectric scanning method
Measurement range: 0 to 200 digits
Resolution: 0.1 digit
Accuracy: 0.1 digit
Alarm signal: Acoustic

This instrument is ideally suited to approximately locating moisture in buildings, apartments and houses.
